In an attempt to provide quality education to the Government school students, the School Education and literacy Department with the help of 60 experts has designed the books of standard 1 to 5. Jharkhand Council of Education Research and Training (JCERT) will replace National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT) textbooks from new academic session.

Students in Government schools will now read about the biographies of various personalities who have carved niche for themselves in different fields, bringing applaud to the State. “From this academic year, the textbooks will be available for the students. The motto is to make the students familiar with the famous personalities, so that they get inspired by their life, struggle and overall journey of different eminent personalities. There are several luminaries from Jharkhand in the field of sports, politics, economy who have proved their worth at both national and international arena. Studying about their icons will encourage students and stimulate students to set an agenda to achieve goals,” said HRD Minister Neera Yadav.

The designing of textbooks has been completed by the selected panelists and will be published soon. Citing details about the present status, the Director, Secondary Education, Manish Ranjan said, “The work is complete and the panelists have compiled all the books of all the major subjects. We have not completely ignored NCERT syllabus but we have added few more details in the syllabus about eminent personalities of Jharkhand.”

“Four major subjects--Mathematics, English, Hindi and Environmental Studies-have been designed accordingly by the expert panel. For class 4 and 5, all the core subjects have been designed whereas for standard 1, 2 and 3 experts have contributed only in designing three subjects English, Hindi and Mathematics,” added Ranjan.

Giving details about the approval procedure, Ranjan pointed out, “It is not necessary to get the approval from any specific institution, as education is a state subject. But to avoid any controversy, we have sent the content list to two institutes-NCERT, New Delhi and Regional School of Education for approving the syllabus.”

The books have been designed by the teachers from Jharkhand in last four months and it is an innovative step to enhance the primary education. “Every individual, involved in designing and compiling the text books is from Jharkhand. We have received 2000 application forms and after checking all the pre-requisites, the team of 60 experts was formed,” said Ranjan.

Illustrators and Coral Draw experts approached by the department are also from Jharkhand and have designed the pages as per the requirement which enhances the content of each chapter.
