After a shocking video of labourer, Ram Singh of Jharkhand, being ruthlessly beaten to death by hanging him with a pulley in Punjab went viral on the social media, State labour Minister Raj Paliwal on Sunday ordered labour Commissioner to get all details of the incident and submit a report within 24 hours after talking to his counterpart in Punjab.
The State Government also has announced to extend all support to his family members for bringing back the body of the deceased to his home in Jharkhand.
“I have directed the labour Commissioner to immediately get all details of the incident and submit a report within 24 hours after talking to his counterpart in Punjab,” said Raj Paliwal. The Commissioner has also been asked to make all arrangements to bring the body back to his home in Jharkhand, the Minister added.
The Minister further added the State Government would extend all possible support to the family members of Ram Singh.
“If he was a registered migrant labourer with the State Government, his family members will be getting a compensation of `1.5 lakh from the Government. But, in case he had not registered himself as a migrant labourer due to some reasons, his dependents will be given a compensation of `1 lakh by the State Government,” said the Minister.
Furthermore, Paliwal said, “The State Government after establishing a conversation with the labour Commissioner of Punjab, will also seek immediate action against those whoever were involved in the incident, leading to the killing of Ram Singh.”
Expressing concern over the issue of increasing migration of labourers to other States in search of their bread and butter, the Minister said the Government would soon launch welfare schemes so that people do not have to migrate further to other States and they could lead a dignified life by earning their bread and butter here in Jharkhand itself. The Minister also thanked the media as well as social media for bringing the news forward.
The 34 minutes video of Ram Singh revealed how he was being thrashed with iron pipes by hanging him from a pulley, apparently in the same factory where he had been working. The video clipping of the incident was put into light by someone on the social media who was present at the spot while the incident took place.According to police, the main accused in the case has been identified as Jaspreet Singh.
Singh’s wife alleged that a few people came to their house in Khankot village in a car on Thursday and forcibly took her husband away after he was held responsible for a theft which took place in the factory a few days back. After beating him mercilessly they threw him on road. later, his body was recovered from the T-Point at Mehta Road in Amritsar. Singh, according to the family members, worked at a foundry at Focal Point in Amritsar.
Meanwhile, a case has been booked under Section 302, 365 and 34 of IPC against Jaspreet Singh and two other unidentified persons at Mohkampura Police Station.
“Meanwhile, we are conducting raids in several parts of the Amritsar to nab the accused,” said SHO of Mohkampura Police Station Narinder Kaur.
Initial investigations, however, suggested that the accused hailed from Nepal, but he had been working in Amritsar for the past 15 years.
