The admission in State engineering colleges will be carried out through National Testing Agency (NTA) from academic session 2019-20. Those students who had already appeared in JEE Mains examination conducted in January and to appear in JEE Mains examination in April are eligible for admission at State engineering colleges.
Rajesh Kumar Sharma, Secretary, Higher Technical Education & Skill Development Department said, “Based on the merit list prepared by NTA for JEE Mains, candidates can apply for admission at State engineering colleges.
The JCECEB will carry out online counseling of students followed by which selected candidates will be allotted seats at different engineering colleges.”
Students seeking admission at State engineering colleges at the time of counseling will have to submit their domicile certificate, income certificate, caste certificate and if required disability certificate.
Sharma said, “As there is reservation for candidates belonging from State, domicile certificate is mandatory for students seeking admission at State engineering colleges.”
The decision to accept NTA score in admission at State engineering college was taken at the last cabinet meet.
Students seeking admission at government engineering colleges and private engineering colleges in State would not have to appear at separate examinations being conducted by Jharkhand Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board (JCECEB), as the State Government has decided to accept the merit list prepared by National Testing Agency (NTA).
The National Testing Agency (NTA) is premier organization established by Centre for admission/fellowship in higher educational institutions. The NTA conduct examinations in following domains which includes JEE in engineering, NEET in medical and CMAT in management among others.
Meanwhile, the students’ communities have welcomed the decision of State Government to have NTA score for admission at State engineering colleges.
Rahul Kumar, a final year intermediate science student of St Xavier’s College Ranchi said, “The decision to have NTA score in admission at State engineering colleges is in larger interest of students. Earlier, students had to appear at separate examination for IITs and State engineering colleges, but with single entrance test, students will not have to sit twice for entrance test.”
The student further said, “Not only students had to appear for different engineering entrance test, cost factor also counted as students had to fill application forms for different engineering colleges.”
Echoing the views of Rahul Kumar, Sunny Rajan another intermediate science student of Ranchi College said, “The decision to accept NTA score for admission in state engineering colleges will bring transparency in admission process at State engineering colleges.”
In Jharkhand there is one government engineering college-- Birsa Institute of Technology Sindri, three engineering colleges running under Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode and 13 private engineering colleges.
Prior to Jharkhand introducing NTA score for admission in State engineering colleges, many States including Bihar has decided to accept NTA score for admission in State engineering colleges.
