Hundred and ninety employees of Tubes Division of Tata Steel have been transferred to Steel Works. All such employees who reported to Steel Works have been successfully deployed in various sections/departments of Steel Works while few have opted to avail ESS on their own.
It may be mentioned that Tubes Division's profitability has been under pressure due to surmounting costs, primarily the fixed costs. The fixed costs of the Tubes Division are almost three times as compared to the competition which makes the division vulnerable and uncompetitive. Tata Steel management along with the union decided to keep the division running and find ways and means to make the division cost competitive.
