Staff crunch, funds issues at SCPCR need to be solved: Kujur

PRAGYA PAllAVI

Aarti Kujur, member of Zila Parishad elected from Namkom Central, talks about her new role as Chairperson of State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) and other developmental issues to The Pioneer. Kujur is a topper in Political Science from Ranchi University, a law graduate and a renowned social activist. She is also a member of Birsa Ulgulan Manch and is associated with BJP since 2013.

SCPCR has been in controversy for some or the other reasons. How will you manage things hereIJ

Yes, I am familiar with few controversies but want to start a fresh everything. As I have been chosen for the post, my aim is to work in co-ordination with all members and resolves maximum cases which will come under the jurisdiction of the commission.

How you will improve the present condition of SCPCRIJ

The commission lacks even basic amenities and was not functioning the way it should have been. I have even consulted Social Welfare Minister, louise Marandi on the issue, to address our need immediately. She has assured us all assistance and aid. A meeting too has been planned on the issue. All other necessary details have been provided by the former Chairperson and I will work accordingly to discharge my duties.

What are your priorities and how you will handle the challengesIJ

My top priority is development, targeting children including the issue of migration. When I started working as an activist, I had to face several challenges at every stage. The vital problem here in commission is allocation of funds; the commission does not get funds in time. If this is sorted, half of the problem will be addressed.

What other additional facilities are required to make SCPCR more effectiveIJ

Firstly, we need to address the problem of staff crunch. Apart this, we require trained professional to deal with the cases as the commission has been given the power of Civil Court. As the reports are submitted annually, all members need to work in co-ordination to address the need of child rights.

Maximum human trafficking cases are registered from Jharkhand. What steps SCPCR will take to combat itIJ

I am familiar with this serious issue and after discussing it with members and the department Minister. We will be planning awareness campaign in rural pockets soon. The members need to make strategies and work accordingly for this specific purpose.
