M FZ AHMAD

The work boycott of senior residents of the Medinirai medical college hospital in Daltonganj on/ from December 29 are back to work from today January 6.

The work boycott was in protest against the non-payment of stipend @ of 75,000 rupees each since 4 months, said one senior resident R Mallick of the Medinirai medical college hospital in Daltonganj.

Sources said the stipend will be digitally transferred to the accounts of 19 senior residents working in this medical college hospital in a couple of days from now onwards. Two or three other SRs are on deputation elsewhere.

A senior physician Dr R K Ranjan said these people did work boycott from December 29, 2022  till January 5, 2023.

Dr Ranjan said we do have concern for these senior residents when their stipends get so pending but at the same time these people should also not act like any striking worker of another institution as they are in a very noble profession dedicated to humanity.

Reacting to it one SR said our stipend is our support line and if it goes unpaid for months then SR or anybody else may resort to more measures than this work boycott only.

On being asked if these senior residents will have any difficulty in getting stipend for days on which they were on work boycott as work boycott days can't be counted in their 3 years mandated senior residency to which Dr Ranjan said "Let the medical superintendent Dr Dilip Kumar Singh take note of it and act accordingly."

Dr Ranjan said there is a mechanism for adjustment for days on which work in hospital has not been done.

One SR said this work boycott was forced upon us as had we been paid our stipends regularly and in time no one would have gone to have this kind of work boycott. This SR said we are no defaulter but the department and hence there should not be any coercive action against us.
