Never before in the parliamentary history of Jharkhand Assembly such a tribute was paid to women as on March 8, incidentally the day observed as ‘International Women’s Day’, when for the first time a women member, Geeta Koda, presided over the proceedings the House as the Chairperson.

Koda presided over the second session of Tuesday’s proceedings which discussed education budget and she was the Speaker’s choice to lead the discussion in the House. Koda who represents Jagannathpur Assembly Constituency was on the chair for around 20 minutes.

“This is very good for women empowerment. For the first time there was no aye or no side in the House on the question of women empowerment,” said Chhatarpur MlA, Radha Krishna Kishore.

Interestingly, it was complete tribute to women on the special day as two women members were given the opportunity to put their views on the budget. The first of its kind of gesture is likely to motivate women to dream big.

“Vidhansabha acts as society’s mirror. House was unanimous over her name. Now women will draw inspiration from Geeta Koda would like to follow in her footsteps,” added Kishore.
