Solar Power will soon solve uninterrupted electricity problems at Ranchi University (RU) campus in Morhabadi. Human Resource Development (HRD) has given a nod to University’s Vice Chancellor (VC) Ramesh Kumar Pandey for the model proposal of setting 16 panels of the renewable source with the help of Energy Department.
Making the announcement during the 55th Foundation Day celebrations of the State University at Aryabhatta Auditorium on Sunday, Pandey said, “Every month we pay an electricity bill of over `55,000. Solar power will curtail the budget.”The panels would particularly benefit the Post Graduate (PG) departments at the Basic Sciences Building and those Humanities, Commerce and Vocational departments near the area.
In order to increase the enrolment of students, the VC has urged government to allow running Post Graduate classes in two shifts, morning and evening. “We hope to commence classes in shifts from the session 2015-16,” he said. The University is also in process of setting up a Health Centre for the employees and students. A proposal for the plan was submitted by Pandey to Health Minister Ramchandra Chandravanshi last week.
As far as the manpower crunch in the premiere state university and other four state universities is concerned, Nalin Kumar, OSD (Judicial) to Governor said that the government has solved the technical and legal glitches in the recruitment and now in a position to fulfill the vacant posts at the earliest.
“No new posts have been created in the state universities after 1976. Posts will be created phase-wise. It will help in improving the quality of education at college and university levels,” HRD Secretary Aradhana Patnaik said.
Notably, the four state universities KU, SKMU, VBU and NPU were earlier under RU and were formed as separate universities few years ago.
The Government is expected to grant the permanent land of RU at Cheri-Manatu soon. Patnaik said the plan of establishing Women’s Degree College in districts not having the gender-based institution is in pipeline. “We have searched land for the Women’s College in Simdega, Gumla, lohardaga and Khunti,” she added.
Pandey said till the land at Khunti is finalized, classes for the women’s college will run in the morning shift at Khunti College while for others it will be held in the evening session. The University’s pending demand to open a PG department of Archeology is approved by the Government.
