Even as preparations for Chhath puja are in full swing at the houses of devotees the district administration is preparing a list of dos for itself and has taken necessary steps with regard to security during the holiest of all festivals for the worshippers of Sun God.
The district administration, of late, has given shape to the arrangements for the festival and issued a number of instructions.
The festival is known for practicing highest degree of cleanliness a point the district administration realised very late as Ranchi DC, Vinay Kumar Choubey, visited major chhath ghats — Bara Talab, Chadri Talab, Machli Ghar and Kanke Dam-today and seemed unsatisfied with the maintenance of these ghats which draw thousands of people revering rising and setting Sun.
“Work is going on. It was affected due to holiday but we are back on business to ensure cleanliness during festival,” said senior PRO of RMC, Ramkrishna Kumar.
The administration is planning to station divers at all major water bodies to prevent accident besides making proper lighting arrangements near all chhath ghats with generators wherever required and there will be a medical team to address minor injuries on the spot.
Also, the administration will embark on construction spree to repair broken drains, cover open drains and make arrangements for water at several points.
To maintain security the district administration has divided the city into eight zones and will deploy magistrate apart from 32 static deployment of officials on October 29 and 30.
Fire tenders will be kept ready to control fire.
The main agency responsible for ensuring a perfect setup at the banks of commonly flocked water bodies however is dragging its feet over cleanliness as most of the chhath ghats are still littered with garbage dumped during Diwali. Worse, even approach roads to most of the ponds are full of garbage which has not been lifted due to most of the workers going on cleanliness.
“There is roster for clearing chhath ghats and we are doing everything we can to ensure that devotees neither pass through garbage filled roads nor do they have abominable experiences at ghats. We will make special deployment to clean ponds and lifting garbage from the designated dumpling positions” added the Senior PRO.
