Dr BC Nirmal, the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor (V-C) of National University of Study and Research in law, Ranchi (NUSRl) is unhappy with the ‘slow construction’ work of the law cradle at Nagri. On Monday he inspected this under construction campus along with Registrar Alok Kumar Sengupta.
According to sources, Dr Nirmal has put up a deadline in front of Central Public Works Department (CPWD).
“He asked them to hand over the Mess Building, Administrative cum Academic building and the 500 bedded hostel by April 30. Also, he mentioned them that if this project delays after April the University will be unable to intake the upcoming new batches. Notably, ClAT result will be declared on May 31 and the counseling will commence from June 1,” an official source confirmed.
Registrar Sengupta said that the university has already exhausted an amount of `36 crores out of the allotted budget of `50 crores and is in need of more fund. He said, “CPWD engineers had asked for more amount for the remaining phase of construction. The High Court on Friday had cleared the allotment of a sum of `10 crores.”
Sources maintained that the university is yet to receive the judgement copy of this much-awaited court hearing. Significantly, Dr Nirmal in an exclusive interview with this correspondent on February 17 just after few hours of his joining had told that NUSRl cannot attain ‘national status’ unless it does not shifts to its own building.
“In a place like Ranchi there is a national law university but to understand its national status is a matter of Research. We need our own building,” he had said.
The university since its establishment in 2010 is carrying out the academic session at Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra’s (BIT) Polytechnic Campus. Every year, it has to rely on BIT Mesra officials for increasing the classrooms so that the fresh batch can be accommodated. Moreover, students find it difficult to commute from university to hostel since the boys are residing in Khelgaon residential complex and girls are staying in ‘Sahara Bihar’ (a private apartment) wherein a large sum of rent is paid by NUSRl to these respective owners.
