In a bid to make Criminal Justice System more effective, cases of serious nature in Ranchi will now be investigated by Special Investigating Officers (SIOs) who will be imparted two months’ rigorous training by experts coming from various agencies.
Addressing the newly appointed SIOs at the inaugural ceremony of two-day workshop, SSP Kuldeep Dwivedi said that they will ensure how to reach up to the last stage of investigation.
“One officer selected from each police station will be given two month training to probe some special cases related to serious crimes making the criminal justice system more effective,” said the SSP. These police officials will train other police officials in the police station, added the SSP.
“All 43 officers selected for the purpose will be imparted training from different agencies like Forensic Science laboratory, Judicial officers etc. They will also be trained in writing the case diary properly, efficient sample collection along with the technical aspects of making investigations more efficiently,” the SSP said.
He added that failure by investigating officers to maintain case diary properly resulted into acquittal of criminals during the trial. “As per the provisions under the law, a case diary must be finalised after showing it to the Public Prosecutor which is generally not done due to lack of time with the police officers,” Dwivedi added.
Speaking at the occasion, Principal Judicial Commissioner Navneet Kumar stressed on making SIOs technologically sound for efficient investigations into the cases. “Police and Judicial Officers must also work in co-ordination with each other for making criminal justice system more effective,” said Kumar.
The programme was also attended by SP City Ranchi Kaushal Kishore, District legal Services Authority Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh and Special PP BN Sharma.
