To empower all the 40 trained women constables, who are patrolling on scooters to keep eyes on the malicious activities especially in the women centric precincts, are being imparted training in varied dimensions to curb violence against women in the State capital.
Shakti Commandos, a team of 40 trained women constables are on mission to keep a strict vigil in the State capital, as outsize women workforce reside here. The police department has planned regular training for these women personnel to empower them so that they can combat any tough situation, as per required in time of crisis.
With two basic dictums, the women constables are all set to deliver their duties with utmost sincerity and responsibility. These women constables will not only patrol in the sensitive zones but also impart knowledge to school children especially adolescent girls against sexual violence, an initiative of CID team and under operation Nirbhik, Hum-Tum which kicked off in October 2015 to sensitize school girls on several legal facets and other aspects of child rights.
“First round of training has been completed covering vital dimensions; the department is also planning to train all these women commandos in judo, karate and other physical activities to make them both mentally and physically fit to warfare any untoward incidents and intricate challenges,” informed, Inspector General, CID, Sampat Meena.
Nevertheless, the police department is in quandary, whether to institute similar women constable service in other districts too or not. “We have started the service on experimental basis, after getting the response; the department will initiate the service in other districts also. The service has been started with the ‘Shakti Mobile App’, as these women police force will immediately respond to the complaints and will reach the spot in time to rescue the plaintiffs,” Meena pointed out.
CM, Raghubar Das on the occasion of International Women’s Day had launched Jharkhand’s first women safety android application Shakti App at JAP 1 ground in the state capital and flagged off 20 scooters on which 40 trained women constables, who would patrol the city to ensure safety for women.
The response of Shakti mobile app is yet to gain pace among the denizens and accordingly, the service will be upgraded and women police force will be amplified. “We are working to modify the service more and will also create awareness among the people especially women in the coming days. So far, we have made 100 test calls on the investigational basis, actual work is yet to get impetus. But, the women constable service will boost the police image among masses,” added Meena.
