A trgic case of sexual exploitation of a girl student of Kasturba Gandhi Girls Residential School, Manjhiaon, in Garhwa district has recently come to light. The student had delivered a child at Primary Health Centre, Manjhiaon under the same police station of the district about six months back.
She had become pregnant after being harassed by a youth in the nearby village.
To hide the matter, school authorities, with the help of a Doctor and an Auxiliary Nursing Midwifery (ANM) had hospitalised the girl on June 26, 2019 and had sent the girl to her home after the birth of the baby boy. Then the ANM had secretely adopted the child.
The alleged sexual abuse had come to light after six month when Chairman of Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Garhwa, investigated the matter through child line counselling committee. After investigating the matter, the chairman of CWC sent the report to the Governor of Jharkhand, National Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Child Trust Board, CID, Jharkhand, Secretary District Legal Service Authority, Garhwa SP and many others on November 26 for needful action.
According to reports a class 8 girl student of the school got pregnant after physically abused by her Co-villager. The school girl and the youth from the same village, used to meet in a woman’s house in the village itself. She did not report the ordeal due to fear and shame. On the day of delivery girl admitted at PHC, Manjhiaon on the name of ANM Nirmala Kumari. After giving birth to the child she was sent to her home. ANM Nirmala, who worked in the same hospital, kept the child with her.
It is also noted in the report that the hospital’s signature duty registered has been tampered .On one hand, Nirmala is shown admitting for delivery on June 26,2019, on the other hand, the signature is also shown doing her duty in the register.
