Senate member election likely to open can of worms at VBU

RR Srivastava

Come September 10 and the Vinoba Bhave University Hazaribagh may get into some controversies as the university is going to organize the meeting of its Senate, which according to its schedule will elect a person from Medical Council of India, said sources.  The process of filing of nomination papers has been completed and scrutiny has been done. Two candidates are in fray and nowadays campaigning is going on in full swing. Till the last date of nomination VBU administration has not published the list of senate members who will take part in the voting process of this election and the nomination process was completed without this preliminary requisite of any election, which has already created a concrete ground for litigation, said a senator cum ex-officer of VBU.

Requesting anonymity the Senator said that Senate is the supreme body of the university as per law. Chancellor of the universities of the state has been designated as the chairman of this supreme body as per rules and if any litigation crops up regarding this body then chancellor will be the party of that litigation.

He said that the VBU administration was not working as per the rules and statutes illustrated in the university law of Jharkhand. Violation of rules and regulations has become a regular practice for the present university administration, he added.

Presently, there are so many officers in university office who do not possess the minimum requisite qualification, rank and experience needed for the post as per the rules of Jharkhand university law, the senator said.

As per Jharkhand university act deans and heads of post graduate departments will remain on the post for a period of two years. Deans and heads are the natural members of senate as per act. In VBU there are many deans and heads that had already completed their two year tenure in the office but new selections have not been made. It will certainly affect the election process so people are talking here that this time the loser will certainly go to the court of law. If it happens then it will be difficult for chancellor office to defend because chancellor is the chairman of senate as per university law, the senator concluded.
