In Jharkhand nutritious food items are available in large quantity but ironically, the residents do not consume it in appropriate amount. As a result of which 70 per cent of State population is in the grip of malnutrition.
To create awareness among the people a seminar was organised by Women and Child Welfare Department and Government of India on Wednesday.
Director of Public Relation Department (PRD) Awadesh Kumar Pandey said, “In villages fresh vegetables, fruits and pulses are available and in them nutrient value is very high. Satirically, in villagers still there exists a taboo regarding food consumption. Teachers should play pivotal role in eradicating such taboos among them.”
According to Assistant Chief Medical Officer, MM Sengupta in countries like America, France, German there exists a culture of consuming packed food items. In such foods nutrient contents are very low. India is privilege that here fresh foods are available in abundant quantity. The need of the hour is to aware people specially villagers about it.
Assistant Director of Social Welfare Department Rajeev Ranjan urged the people not to waste food. He said, “It is often found that in parties foods are wasted in large quantities. People fill their plate with food items more than their diet and waste it. Residents should develop a habit of providing the excess food to needy person. If all contribute in this direction than we will be able to curb the problem of malnutrition to a great extend.”
Assistant Director of PRD Snehlata Ekka emphasised the need for addressing malnutrition in the State on war footing and plead from the people to look into the matter seriously and provide their round the clock help in eradicating the problem of malnutrition from root-cause. “The battle cannot be won by one man’s army,” she added.
