Police and paramilitary forces seized a finished can bomb and 50 half-finished can bombs as well as 15 pressure coocker bombs from a place at Goelkera in West Singhbhum district.
The police and paramilitary forces razed a camp suspected being run by CPI-Maoist rebels in the dense jungle of Goelkera.
The West Singhbhum superintendent of police Michael Raj confirmed about the recovery of the explosives materials from a rebel camp at Goelkera late last evening.
“Acting on a tip off we carried an operation. The camp was located at a village between Tonto and Goelkera which falls under Kolhan region. One of the bombs was finished and was about to be planted along the mud road leading to a CRPF camp. But as the police got an input that there was a full-fledged training camp in place, we raided the place from where we recovered the semi-finished bombs,” said Raj.
The police suspect about 50 rebels participating in the training camp at that spot.
“We started launching a massive raid at the camp, causing the rebels and their leader to flee. We are carrying out a combing operation in the entire region,” said Raj.
Apart from the explosives and bomb making equipment, the police and paramilitary forces have recovered rice, and eggs from the camp. The sources in the police said that it is suspected that the camp was being run since the past fortnight.
Intelligence sources said that the bombs were being made to trigger serial explosions in rebel-infested West Singhbhum during the Panchayat elections.
