Security beefed up after spurt in crime

Police swung into action after a series of armed robberies and rising incidents of theft in different localities of Ranchi. Security has been beefed up with additional deployment at all squares in the city and places of high foot-fall following spurt in crime related to theft and armed robberies that robbed businessmen and others of peace.

As many as 22 cases of theft of huge amounts and belongings were reported since November, 2014 including theft from a reputed bank’s locker. Security arrangements were also exposed as three armed robbery at three petrol pumps could not be prevented despite police’s earlier claim of increasing security in capital.

As many as 300 additional forces comprising JAP-1, Jaguar, Tiger and Panther have been deployed on locations identified by police in their plan to control crime and arrests criminals at large. “Security forces can be seen at all squares, entry points and other locations deployed since morning. We have allotted forces to police stations by charting out detailed security plan,” said City SP Anoop Birtharay.

Police modified its strategy in the face of growing criticism for failure in checking crime. To salvage the pride lost in last couple of months the latest strategy is likely to focus on isolating groups with known antecedents of a particular type of crime and splitting the available human resource to control crime and arrest criminals.

“We have identified groups and have formed separate teams of police officials for controlling crime and a separate team that will arrest people involved in crime. Very soon all those involved in criminal activities will be brought to book,” asserted the City SP.

Notwithstanding the security arrangements, police is yet to arrest people behind three armed robberies at three petrol pumps in the city. The incidents took place on February 7. Meanwhile, police is on its toes after getting rapped by senior officials and keeping track of criminals walking out of prison is now being undertaken as a means to prevent crime before it is committed.
