The Rural Development Department came up with latest figures suggesting that the initiative of the Government aimed to involve rural masses in the plan making exercise has reached up to about 120 blocks across the State.
The fact came to the fore during a high-level review of the initiative conducted by Chief Minister Raghubar Das on Tuesday. Officials of the Department also said that the schemes opted largely by the villagers are related to land leveling, making small bunds, construction of smaller ponds, wells and shelters for animals apart from some basic infrastructure facilities for them.
Officials present in the meeting also underlined the importance of the proposals considering their role in bringing the depleting water level up. Besides, decisions to take approval of the Panchayat Samiti and Zila Parisad for generation of more workdays under MGNREGA and initiating data entry to complete it by February 22 were also taken in the meeting that also involved DCs and Divisional Commissioners through video conferencing.
“The CM directed that all DCs would review MGNREGA works daily while the Divisional Commissioners should do it on weekly basis. Also, directions for complete disbursal of funds under the IAY along with granting all the houses to the beneficiaries as per allocations made have been given to district authorities,” said an official present in the meeting. The DCs also shared their views on speeding up the developmental schemes.
Speaking on the occasion, the CM stressed over people centric development and talked about accountable Government with good governance. “People-centric development is the key for good governance. This can be achieved only with greater people participation in the plan making. This would boost up confidence of the common man into the system as well as the Government and can also prove vital for the success of any scheme,” said the CM.
