Senior BJP leader and former legislator Saryu Roy on Tuesday announced to stage a one day dharna before Raj Bhavan on June 5 - World Environment Day. June 5 is also observed as Sampoorna Kranti Diwas – that marked the start of historic rally of lakhs at Gandhi Maidan Patna under the leadership of Jai Jayprakash Narayan
The Statewide dharna is aimed at drawing the President’s attention towards the pollution, environmental issues and corruption in the State. The stage of the dharna is open for one and all including organisations – who can participate with their banners-, political parties and individuals.
A decision to this effect was taken in the State capital on Tuesday at a meeting of representatives of Damodar Bachao Andolan Evam Jal Jagrukta Abhiyan.
The district representatives of the organisation have been given a time period till May 15 to file the problems related to water, pollution environmental issues and corruption in the areas they represented.
Taking into consideration all the reports compiled within that period the work out strategies would be planned by the organisation. This will be followed by the dharna before the Raj Bhawan.
A memorandum will be handed over to the Governor. “In President’s rule he is the State’s supreme authority. We want our messages to be conveyed to President through him,’ Roy said.
Roy opined that the State was going through unprecedented crises on water, pollution and environmental and corruption fronts. He also appealed all political parties to keep these issues on their election time agenda as and when lok Sabha election happened next year.
He also criticised the attitudes of “so-called brilliant minds” in IAS, IPS, IIT-pass-outs who were at the helms of various industries - that contributed lot to pollution- but they don’t care.
“Now is the time to enforce attitudinal change in these upper strata people. The poor ones generally have respect for environment,” he said.
On the sidelines of the meeting he talked about the cash recovered from a
hotel on a day just before the civic body polling day and he advocated a CBI inquiry in the matter. “Action should be
taken not only against the pawns and the proxies but also against their political masters,” he said.
Talking about the ongoing indefinite fast of ranger Anand against the alleged corruption in the forest department - that entered its 15th day – he said that a party delegation would meet and request him to end his fast.
“And if he agrees to out persuasion we will take forward his agendas as our agendas and fight for the cause he had put forth,” he said.
