Following the footsteps of State Government officials to adopt a school for overall development, Ranchi University (RU) Vice Chancellor (VC) Ramesh Kumar Pandey will soon adopt a college for the same reason. Talking to The Pioneer on Friday, he said he has decided to adopt Karam Chand Bhagat (KCB) College, Bero since it is a rural college and needs utmost attention. The college is among the 15 constituent colleges of Ranchi University and is functioning without a Principal since a long time. Professor-in-Charge Gone Urawna is playing the role of officiating Principal.

Around 1.5 months back, students of the college have protested against the Professor-in-Charge for neglecting their issues. As of now, Pandey is willing to adopt the college on his personal level by the end of this month. “I will not only ensure proper academic session of the college but also look over the maintenance of its infrastructure, management and placements of the students,” he said.

Asked on whether he has urged his colleagues to come forward for the similar cause, he said, “It is the personal choice of the university officers.” Besides, intermediate in science and arts, the college provides Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Hindi, English, History, Political Science, Economics, and Philosophy along with Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology. Pandey’s adoption plan was welcomed by administrative officers of the university. A woman officer said, “We were unaware about any such plan. It is an appreciable job.” Pandey who was appointed as RU VC in the month of March is a faculty member of University’s Post Graduate Department of Botany.
