Ranchi University (RU) is planning to set up language lab by the end of this session. Varsity officials have identified Indian Management of Studies (IMS), Ranchi Women’s College and Doranda College for this purpose.
In the language lab, students are taught to speak the language in which he or she is weak and can gain command over the same especially English.
The information was highlighted by Vice Chancellor (VC) laxmi Narayan Bhagat and Vocational Studies Coordinator Ashok Kumar Choudhary at the inauguration ceremony of Master of Business Management session 2013-15 on Thursday.
“There is an urgent need of language lab. We are in talks with HCl Company for providing the software required for this communication programme. Our main priority is to begin such coaching by this session end,” Dr Choudhary, the Vocational Studies coordinator said.
According to university officials, students of RU fail to grab a good placement due to their inability in speaking English. The facility is presently available at noted 50 business schools of India. At Ranchi, it is found at Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra and Institute of Science and Management, Pundag.
“Being a government institution RU is lagging behind the technique of grooming the students as they come from diverse language speaking background,” said IMS faculty member Chinmoy Kumar.
Describing the details of this communication class, Kumar said, “The class is normally of 13 to 14 students wherein there is individual face to face student-teacher interaction. It has wider implications of other subjects like management and science. Depending upon the software, translation except English language is possible.”
IMS Director SK Singh said, “VC has asked to send the proposal for the language lab at the earliest.” Singh is eager to introduce foreign language learning classes into the language lab.
“Chinese, French and German languages would preferably be inculcated as there is a huge corporate career demand in these languages these days,” Singh added.
As many as 240 students joined the new batch at IMS of which 60 percent are boys 40 percent are girls. In order to strengthen the management students for facing job interviews, IMS from this session began career counselling programme from day one in which students are taught on how to develop their personality.
The new IMS batch is looking forward for the beginning of the language lab. “Many of our batchmates are confident to get placements as our communication skill is good but there are few in other RU colleges who require polishing their speaking skills,” said a student.
