The Container (Robotic) Laboratory at 11 meter convertor floor of SMS-2 was inaugurated by Director In-Charge BSL Amarendu Prakash in the presence of Executive Directors, CGMs of various departments and other senior officers of SMS-2 and other senior officials of BSL. It is a fully automated system to be used for rapid and accurate analysis of steel samples without any manual intervention comprising of automated sample preparation system, master control system, robot system, vision system, optical emission spectrometer and sample marking & storage system integrated with a specially designed steel container installed and commissioned at 11meter convertor floor of SMS-2.
The container laboratory is capable of carrying out sample preparation and analysis after scanning through the vision system providing accurate, safe & reliable analytical result which can be automatically transmitted to the predefined destination to facilitate faster decision making. This Container (Robotic) Laboratory being fully automated with no manual intervention, is suitable for conducting the instrumental analysis of steel samples from the converters of Steel Melting Shop of BSL in less than 3 minutes which otherwise consumed more time doing the same job manually. This will facilitate faster & dedicated analysis of bath in order to enhance production/productivity as it will reduce tap-to-tap time of convertor at SMS-II.
