PNS

The Jamshedpur Police on Monday embarked on a drive to tighten noose of roadside romeos. Dhalbhum sub-divisional officer Subodh Kumar personally monitored the drive around the schools and those junctions which are frequented by romeos after the school break.

He was accompanied by deputy superintendent of police ( law and order), Kanhaiya Upadhyay and other senior cops of the Bistupur police station.

The administrative official and the senior cops in their respective vehicles first reached the loyola School. Seeing the police vehicle, a section of youths who were waiting outside the school campus fled the spot.

They then moved towards the Beldih Triangle, a cross-section between loyola and Beldih Church School , which witnesses a surge of students, both boys and girls, after dismissal of schools.

The administrative and the police team also visited around the Keenan Stadium and  the near-by Sacred Heart Convent School where they stopped two youth on suspicion, asked their names and took their cell numbers and registration number of the bike. They also went around Rajendra Vidyalaya and Motilal Nehru Public School ( MNPS).

“We have been receiving complains of eve-teasing in different localities of the city, directions have been given to the police authorities to tighten the noose around the miscreants indulging in these activities,” said police officials.

Subodh Kumar said, “We have launched the drive following a directive from the deputy commissioner Amitabh Kaushal. The drive has been started to keep a tab on eve-teasers and check antisocial elements from passing lewd comments on girl students”.

Raksha Kumari, a student of Sacred Heart Convent, said that eve teasers continue to make the life of women commuter especially the students, hell. Men standing near the campus showing vulgar gestures are regular features. This is very disgusting.

“The situation has worsened over few months. Many times these men use cheap language and have follows us till our homes. It is high time for the police to act,” said student of Jamshedpur Women’s College.

“Eve-teasing cases have witnessed an increase at the schools so much so that the district women cell of the police has planned to work in coordination with the respective local police stations to prevent incidents of eve-teasing,” said an official of the district women’s cell.

Meanwhile, the district police also carried out an intense arms checking drive at several strategic locations in Sakchi and Bistupur. The arms checking drive continued for about two hours.
