With a few days left for Durga Puja celebration to begin, the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) is yet to chalk out a detailed proposal about the sanitation drive that is carried out annually in all the 53 wards. The details which include additional deployment of the workforce, ward-wise sanitation drive dates and other related inputs is disclosed by RMC officials every year before the beginning of the festive season.
RMC City Manager -- Swacch Bharat Mission (SBM) Cell, Sandeep Kumar said, “We are working on the detailed plan of the sanitation drive. Soon the list will be released. All the ward councilors have been asked to submit the lists as per the requirement of their respective wards. Also, the officials of RMSW- Essel Infra have been asked to take up the charge of all wards on or before October 31.”
Recently on the instructions of Municipal Commissioner Manoj Kumar, RMSW – the company managing the task of solid waste management of the State’s biggest Urban Local Body (ULB) had conducted a meeting with the officials of the concerned firm.
During the meeting, RMSW Essel Infra officials have given the consent to expand the service by taking up the charge of a few more wards before the festive season begins.
Notably, out of 53 wards, till date, the company is handling the work of door to door garbage collection only in 33 wards whereas rest 20 wards are under the control and supervision of the Municipal Corporation.
Meanwhile, annoyed with the laidback approach of the Municipal Corporation on sanitation frontage especially after witnessing the steep rise in the cases of Dengue and Chikungunya, a few ward councilors had recently raised their voice against the civic body’s efforts and had submitted a memorandum to the Municipal Commissioner.
“Despite meeting the officials and taking up the issue of cleanliness predominately during the monthly board meeting, the Civic Body is yet to look into the issue. We too are waiting for the detailed proposal regarding the sanitation drive. Also, regardless of giving several reminders to the company to regularize its service, the company is yet to improve its service especially duration and timing of door to door garbage collection in several wards,” said ward councilor of 26, Arun Jha in despair.
