Wait of Ranchi denizens for a new and hygienic vegetable mart at Jaipal Singh Stadium is going to be longer as the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) is yet to commence their hunt for a suitable bidder.

RMC CEO Manoj Kumar throwing light on the project commented, “Blueprint of the project is ready and we have demarcated the land too. The fencing work has already begun and after the model code of conduct ceases the tender for inviting the suitable bidder will be commence.”

A multi-storeyed shopping complex and a vegetable Mart were proposed at an area of 2936.85 sqm in Jaipal Singh Stadium at Kuchery Chowk.  It was to house a total 319 new shops but due to bureaucratic red tapism and lackadaisical approach of the concerned officials the plan was gathering dust on the table of concerned officials from past four years.

However, responding to the query behind the delay in the revamp project Kumar mentioned, “I am not aware about the past. Now I am going through each plan in detail and leaving no stone unturned in finding a concrete solution for the completion of long pending projects at  earliest.”

He further added that the makeshifts vegetable markets and tea stalls on the footpaths of the city have been causing public nuisance for long.  Major roads like Mahatma Gandhi road, Circular road and Kokar road have narrowed down by the street vendors putting their stalls for a long time. The new market will curb the traffic congestion problem to a great extend and will also contribute in keeping the city clean. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 15 crores and RMC had released Rs 3.38 crores till date for the revamp project.

RMC PRO Naresh Sinha said, “The plan of vegetable mart is at pre-mature stage and it is very difficult to share the details of the project right now. The shops will be given on rent to the street vendors but the amount is yet to finalize. Once the project gets a suitable bidder further details will also get ready.”
