RMC to keep tabs on parking contractors

The contractors who are charging more prices than what is fixed by Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) for parking zones are likely to face the heat from the municipal body.

RMC Deputy Mayor Sanjiv Vijayvargiya had also witnessed that in many parking zones the contractors are violating the laws. Narrating his experience he said, “Recently I went to GEl Church complex with my family while parking my car in the parking zone, a boy handed me a receipt of Rs 20 as parking charge when I objected on it, the boy pointing out towards the rate chart told that this is only the fixed price. To my surprise I found that actual rate chart is manipulated by the contractors.”

According to Vijayvargiya within the city there are as many as 25 authorised parking zones and the parking charges there are uniform. For four wheelers fixed price is Rs 10 and Rs 5 is for two wheelers. It is mandatory for the contractors to follow the same rate. The contractors for these parking zones are revised yearly.

Meanwhile, Vijayvargiya also accepted that his department is leaving loopholes in keeping a check over it. He said, “It is the responsibility of the RMC to monitor that the rate chart of every parking zone but our officials do not perform their duty on regular basis. The officials have been instructed to present the list of those parking zones where parking charges are overpriced as soon as possible. Once the list is on my table strong action will be taken against them.”

However, sources reveal that apart from 25 authorised parking, tenders for makeshift parking are also floated and their also the price for four wheelers and two wheeler vehicles are the same (Rs 10 and Rs 5). If any one charges more than the fixed price then it is against the law. The matter is in front of the concerned officers and action will be taken against them.
