Considering the rules of solid waste management, the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) on Saturday conducted a workshop on decentralised composting and bio-composting for bulk generators of solid waste. The workshop dealt with the concept of vermicomposting, bio-gas, usage of automatic converter machines and other methodologies helpful in discarding the waste materials.

Trainers from different agencies imparted the knowledge about different solid waste disposal mechanism considering the environmental norms. Agro Expert from Ramkrishna Mission Ajit Singh, trainers from RCUES a company based in Bengaluru were among the prominent speakers who guided the stakeholders. Also, during the workshop, Rohit Tiwari explained the trainees about the concept of plastic road.

Notably, in the wake of Centre’s flagship programme Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan (SBA), a centralised system is being adopted to ensure safe bulk disposal of waste materials. As per the directives of Ministry of Environment and Forest, GoI, bulk and institutional generators, market associations, event organizers, hotels and restaurants have been made directly responsible for segregation and sorting the waste and manage in partnership with Urban local Bodies (UlB).

Also, the Civic Body here recently has made decentralized composting mandatory for all bulk generators. Now compulsorily banquet hall owners, hostels, lodges etc for annual renewal of their commercial trade licences has to undergo a rigorous procedure.

The commercial setups found infringing the set guidelines of the Municipal Corporation will have to pay hefty amount or else

their licences would be

terminated.
