The Ranchi Municipal Corporation on Monday constituted its Standing Committee and zonal committees for efficient management of its activities in all municipal wards. The chairman of 11 zonal committees will be part of the Standing Committee.
The standing committee will hold meetings if the board fails to hold a meeting thus removing the hurdle in the way of important decisions. Earlier, only a board had the authority to discuss important issues. “If a ward councilor wants he can bring the matter in the standing committee which can discuss the matter and forward it to the board for its approval,” said Deputy Mayor Sanjeev Vijay Vargiya.
As per the decision taken, the 14-member standing committee will comprise CEO, Mayor and Deputy Mayor besides chairman of 11 zonal committees of RMC. “Since there is no Mayor the committee will be a 13-member committee,” added Vargiya. The post of Mayor has been vacant since April and with no elections in sight the committee is likely to function without Mayor for another couple of months.
