RMC fails to maintain see-through park norms

Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has failed to take strict action against authorities of Morhabadi’s Children Nigam Park, a see-through park that has been covered by advertisement hoardings. In the end of November month, the corporation had instructed the park authorities to remove the hoardings within a week but except three hoardings others are still put up on the boundaries.

Environmentalists and experts feel that covering a see-through park was like taking the soul of the park from it. Nitish Priyadarshi, a city based environmentalist said that these hoardings made of plastic were hampering the beautification of the park. “See-Through parks are being made at every corner of the city to sustain greenery but these hoardings are creating a hurdle in implementing the natural environment effect,” said Priyadarshi.

On the other hand, Social Activist Aloka who had been working for the uplift of tribals in Jharkhand said that companies trying to publicise themselves through these advertisements should instead conduct frequent cultural activities within the park for publicity among the locals.

She said, “RMC must take action against those who cover the See-Through parks across the state capital made to avoid the activities of lovers who search for hidden areas in the parks. Sido-Kanhu Park, Nakshatra Park and Rock Garden are already such preferred destinations.”

Sources related to this specific park informed that the owner has displayed the advertisements to earn revenue because RMC charges a rent of `30,000 per month from the owner. “The owner cannot afford this high charge,” said the sources.

Also, it was highlighted by sources that the boys of the tribal hostel opposite to this park often create chaos disturbing the families visiting the park so hoardings are placed to avoid this problem.

Hearing all these arguments, RMC Deputy Mayor Sanjeev Vijayvargiya said that they will soon remove the hoardings themselves. “We had earlier requested the owner to remove all the hoardings. We assure to remove all the hoardings ourselves at the earliest,” he said.

Notably, RMC had stepped forward making use of barren pieces of land in the form of parks by inaugurating parks like Ramdayal Munda Park at Morhabadi ground near Ranchi College (the place with dirty drain and used for dumping garbage) and Nigam Park. These parks have now become the favourite places for the family members, senior citizens and especially for the kids to play.
