The ongoing tussle between Mayor Asha lakra and Municipal Commissioner Shaantanu Kumar Agrahari is not just merely delaying the board meeting proceedings but is also lingering few important civic agendas that need immediate attention.
After the recent clash between the two RMC bosses, the board meeting date has been rescheduled again. The board meeting that was scheduled on October 30 will now take place on November 9.
Notably, this is not for the first time when the clash has triggered, leaving the ward councilors in quandary but earlier as well sidelining all important civic issues, the board meeting just has been put on hold.
With number of issues lying ahead from streamlining the solid waste management system here to gearing up for the forthcoming sanitation challenge, all these civic matters need to be discussed with the ward councilors.
“As a Head, the Municipal Commissioner is accountable to the elected representatives. Despite asking for clarifications on some pivotal issues ranging from the tender of CCTV cameras installation to construction of bus shelters at designated places, the Municipal Commissioner has not yet kept his stance in spite of approaching him several times. Even I am trying that the board meeting is conducted on time every month,” said the Mayor.
“Since the next board meeting is scheduled on November 9. I will conduct a separate meeting with the ward councilors today to further chalk out the plans while taking up some important civic issues from different wards,” lakra further added.
The recent high voltage drama where few ward councilors along with the Mayor had put serious allegation of mismanagement on the Municipal Commissioner has again diverted the board members from the main agenda while rescheduling the board meeting dates.
However, majority of ward councilors following the Municipal Election slated in March 2018 wants that despite of the differences board meeting must be conducted on scheduled date.
“I am answerable to my ward members. The clash must be sorted out at the earliest; it is high time as now just two more board meetings will be conducted before the election. Also, it is incorrect that the ward councilors have instigated the issue. As per my information, only three ward councilors were present on spot when the Mayor decided to lock the main gate of Ranchi Municipal Corporation’s building as a mark of protest on October 28,” said Ward Councilor of 37, Arun Kumar Jha.
