The Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) has found a prompt solution to deal with emergency cases from distant areas. According to Chief Secretary Sajal Chakraborty, a piece of land behind the Super Speciality Hospital of the institution has been marked for a helipad.

“It is one of the closest and convenient locations within the hospital campus. Besides, the helipad, a swimming pool and two more special facilities are listed. We have to book the wares and other important materials for the build up,” the Chief Secretary said.Sources maintained the plan is being formulated in coordination with RIMS, Health and Civil Aviation Departments under the supervision of the Chief Secretary.A budget of around Rs35 crore has been fixed for the helipad.

“We have provided a partial amount out of the total budget. A sum of around Rs15 crore out of the 35 crore is yet to be given to RIMS. Tender for various requisites are also pending. We hope to work out on the plan implementation after the Model Code of Conduct is over,” Health Department Joint Secretary BK Mishra said.

However, Director of the medical institution Dr SK Choudhary hesitated to disclose the details. He said, “Our engineering section is assigned for the management. We have visited four or five spots within the campus. As of now it is a plan and yet to be finalised.”

Other officials confirmed the plan has been sanctioned but the decision on the location is awaited. “Patients in a critical condition often fail to reach our hospital on time. It is due to this reason, our authorities decided to set up a helipad within the campus so that such patients are admitted immediately,” said sources.

Civil Aviation is looking the technical aspect of the helipad. “The hardware and software of the plan is not drafted sequentially. Once, it is done thereafter the construction work will begin,” said Civil Aviation Director Captain Surendra Prasad Sinha.
