Efforts of Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) to increase seat suffered a major blow as the last review inspection by a team of three doctors of Medical Council of India (MCI) appeared utterly upset about the gaps in infrastructure as claimed in a report submitted by the Health department and the ground realities.
The three-member team of Dr PP Joshi, Dr RR Mohanty and Dr PK Ghosh on Monday cross-checked claims of sufficient infrastructure on the premises of the premier medical college. The inspection’s outcome is supposed to affect the decision regarding seat increase at RIMS which had sparked controversy and agitation from students who were admitted to the college on seats beyond the usual number.
According to sources the team of MCI found that no new lecture theaters were created, operation theatre did not meet the norms, few x-ray machines were not functioning, microbiology lab were flouting norms, biochemistry department did not had audio visual room, ICU’s not had portable machines besides several other norms that the college needed to fulfill for getting approval on increasing seats. The physical verification was made against the report submitted by the department of Health in March, 2015.
Significantly, the team also recorded physical attendance of all 300 professors and teachers at RIMS and was left disappointed as the college failed to live up to the expectations on the parameter as well. Director RIMS, SK Chaudhary did not reply due to his busy schedule.
