Followed by the incidents of clash among the groups of students, district admin on Thursday declared sine die closure of Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences campus, directing the undergraduate students to vacate their hostels within 24 hours. Agitated students, however, are likely to stage a dharna before CM house.

“Sine die closure has been imposed on the campus after a recommendation was made by the RIMS administration till further orders,” said Ranchi Sadar SDO Amit Kumar. Meanwhile, no arrest has been made so far in the case related to the clash between the two groups which took place at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences in Ranchi late night on Wednesday.

Students against whom the FIR was lodged at Bariatu Police Station have been suspended by a committee constituting all HODs of RIMS. “A unanimous decision to suspend the accused students was taken in a meeting conducted on Thursday,” confirmed RIMS Director Dr SK Chaudhary. A recommendation was also made to the district administration for imposing sine-die closure in order to maintain peace on the campus, Chaudhary added.

Followed by the directive, police are keeping a close eye that no further disturbance is created in the campus. “The students have been asked to vacate the hostel bag and baggage before tomorrow afternoon,” said OC Bariatu Police Station Vijay Kumar. A group of students, on the other hand, opposing the decision taken by the RIMS administration are likely to stage dharna before the CM house on Friday.

“It is not possible to vacate the hostel in such a short notice and we will try to get an appointment from the CM, failing which we will stage a dharna before the CM house demanding his intervention,” said a fourth year UG student requesting anonymity. Earlier in the afternoon also, a group of students also tried to meet DIG Praveen Singh and Governor Syed Ahmed demanding arrests of the accused persons in the case.

The students also alleged that the people, against whom the FIR was lodged, were responsible for creating disturbances in the RIMS campus. According to the sources inside campus, incident was triggered after a complaint of ragging was lodged against a few doctors during the recently-concluded annual fest - ‘Synergy’. The accused after getting clues regarding complaint lodged against them in the anti-ragging cell, gave it back to them. A group of five students were attacked by them at the common room of hostel number 1.

The same group of students then headed towards hostel number 7 and allegedly thrashed two others. As the matter heated up, an FIR was lodged with the Bariatu police station at 1 am in the midnight. The students, following the incident also gheraoed Bariatu police station demanding arrest of the attackers accusing the police of watching them as mute spectators. Meanwhile, a Public Interest litigation (PIl) was also filed in Jharkhand High Court by a student demanding security by setting up a police outpost inside the RIMS campus and a high level inquiry monitored by the DGP.
