The rare talent got her registered with the limca Book of Records and now she eyes the Guinness Book of World Records. Meet Madhu lakhotia, a ‘reverse singer’, who can sing any song given to her with its lyrics reversed without any practice. lakhotia is a housewife who has nurtured the talent with passion.
“My ultimate dream is to get an entry into the Guiness Book of World Records. I also tried twice but they said that they do not have such a category…. they were also asking me to do it in English which was not possible for me,” said lakhotia.
Kolkata borne lakhotia, who is settled in Mumbai after getting married, has been doing this since adolescence which now comes naturally to her. She is currently in Ranchi to visit her sister.
“I have been doing it from my school days when I was in class 8th or 9th when I first reversed my name which came to Dhoom for Madhu. The word itself inspired me to do more and I reversed the whole song ‘zindagi ek safar hai suhana’ which stimulated my passion for revere singing,” lakhotia added.
lakhotia continued with her passion with practising with more and more songs till she got married to a Mumbai based businessman. But, it was only after marriage that she honed her talent. Recognizing her talent, her in-laws insisted that she must get some vocal training, was later sent to the vocalist Sobha Gurtu for formal training. “After the training, my voice got more melodious,” she said.
Reverse singing now comes natural to her. “I don't practice at all. This is something that comes naturally to me and no training can groom anyone for this. Although I have not received any Bollywood offers till now, I have performed with many big wigs. Bollywood singer Shaan once told me that it is impossible to sing like me and I shouldn't be nervous in front of big shots,” she said.
Javed Jaffery on the other hand, stated that she needed a brain surgery ‘kyunki aapki dimag ka computer ulta hai,' laughs the 45-year-old homemaker, who has even participated in many a stage show.
lakhotia, who is visible on YouTube, claimed that her talent was also appreciated by other Bollywood stars like – Shaan, Shryea Goshal, Udit Narayan, Sudesh Bhonsle and several other celebrities.
She however, asserted that besides her passion, it was a gift of God to her, who enjoys doing it before others which is sometimes termed as strange by some people.
“People who hear me reverse singing often term it as strange which was beyond their understanding which also sounds sound as Arabic. They can hardly be blamed.
When one hears lakhotia zestfully embark on ‘Rame paju hya nipaja’ it is tough to make out it is Mera Juta Hai Japani except from the familiar Mukesh tune.
