Tarikh pe Tarikh milti ja rahi hai judge sahab magar insaaf nahi mil raha (Dates after dates after dates…we get always get dates, never get justice),” a famous dialogue of Sunny Deol starrer Damini gets resonated in one’s mind if one looks at the pitiable situation of the petitioners at Jharkhand State Women Commission (JSWC). The reason behind this is not the Commission but the absence of one party from the petition is preventing from making any head way.
Chanchal Singh who is fighting for her son’s right demanding share in the ancestral property has to return empty-handed for the second time because his in-laws did not come to attend the hearing.
She said, “Although a notice from the Commission informing the date of the hearing is being received by them regularly but irony is that each time they turn a deaf ear to the notices.”
Explaining her ordeal she said that being a single parent it is not easy for her to leave her child alone at home in Bokaro.
Echoing her, another petitioner from Dhanbad Anubha Kumari said, “I filed my case here with the hope that will get rid of my distress married life soon but here due to lack of co-operation from my husband end my life is getting hell every day.” She said that she had urged the Commission Chairperson Mahua Maji to find a solution of this problem.
Meanwhile, Maji is also stuck within the provision of the rule. She said, “As per the rule Commission has to send notice informing about the schedule of the hearing for three times to both the party. If anyone among the two remains absent in all the three hearing then only the commission has the authority to call the person through police warrant.”
According to Maji the Commission is leaving no loopholes in performing its duty. It is the provision which is trying the hands of the authority in taking any concrete action in this direction.
Besides, the Commission is also not getting the expected support from the district police as in many cases it has been found that the notice is not being dispatched to the concerned person on time by the district police officials.
In today’s hearing one of the petitioner’s has to return empty handed as the other party denied of receiving any such notice from the Commission.
When the commission enquired the concerned district police officials about the matter they were found giving an excuse of notice arrival in just time. However, the police deny from practicing such practices. One of the officials from Hindipiri Police Station said, “As soon as we get the letter we dispatch it immediately to the concerned party.”
