The long-awaited demand of the residents of Cable Town and Cable Basti has finally been fulfilled as the Jharkhand High Court cleared the way for them to receive electricity connections from Tata Steel UISL. On Friday, the High Court delivered its verdict on a writ petition filed two years ago, allowing residents to individually apply for Tata Power connections.
This decision brings relief to hundreds of households that have been waiting for a reliable power supply. Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Roy expressed his happiness over the court's decision, stating that he had been advocating for this for the past three years. He emphasized that Tata Steel had no legal barriers to providing electricity connections in Cable Town and Cable Basti but had delayed the process by seeking a no-objection certificate from the resolution professional of the bankrupt Cable Company.
Roy noted, "After today's High Court decision, Tata Steel has no option but to provide electricity connections. I believe the management will respect the verdict and initiate the connection process soon." He also mentioned that senior officials from the Tata Land Department had accepted the court's decision and informed him that they would begin the process as soon as they receive the certified copy of the judgment.
The decision has brought great joy to the residents, who had shown remarkable patience during this prolonged wait. Rai congratulated the community, recalling his earlier efforts that resulted in Tata Steel providing drinking water connections to every house in the Cable area three years ago. He expressed confidence that the electricity connections would soon follow, fulfilling a long-cherished hope of the residents.
This verdict not only resolves a longstanding issue but also highlights the importance of ensuring basic amenities for all citizens.
When contacted, social worker Shiv Shankar Singh “The verdict is the result of our long battle. We worked as a team and this has led to victory. The initiative was taken by the petitioner Vinod Singh a few years back, we backed him as a team and this made all the difference. The decision has been in our favour. We are relieved today. We are confident that the availability of electricity will pave the way for overall development and improve living standards in Cable Town and Cable Basti. We had demanded individual power connections for the residents so that the consumers could get the direct benefits. We are hopeful that the decision will pave the way for better tomorrow”.
