'Read Palamu, lead Palamu' mantra for World literacy Day

PNS

Deputy commissioner Palamu Ameet Kumar has coined ‘Read Palamu lead Palamu’ for the World literacy Day here. This Day which used to pass like any other Day will be different this time. There will be book reading either with sound or eye reading, said Ameet Kumar.

On being asked as to what prompted him to launch ‘Read Palamu, lead Palamu’ Kumar said, “There are numerous neo literates.  They should be given an opportunity to read in confidence and in public view.  These late bloomers can read anything book, magazine, newspaper, holy book or even sports or film magazine.”

Kumar said, “An appeal to this effect has been made to all the elected representatives from panchayat to zila parishad to vidhan sabha to lok sabha and various NGOs operating here.”

Sources said it will be interesting if any elected people’s representative finds time for book reading on September 8 the World literacy Day is to fall.

He even wrote a letter in Hindi for the consumption of the masses wherein like any teacher this IAS officer tried to impress people that books do not betray and so books be kept with oneself and ought to be read.

Sources said there are many here who still find hard to convince them that book reading on World literacy Day will serve any purpose. However, these people concede there is no harm if visible profit of reading is not there.

Kumar will do reading at the oldest Sahitya Samaj library. He has given 3 hours time each having a slot of one hour beginning 9 am on September 8.

The DC understands railway passengers waiting for trains during this time will not love reading any magazine if they buy it for them. They may keep it for reading or browsing of it in the running train. It is to be seen if literate rickshaw pullers stop pulling rickshaw and read books.

Similarly doctors and paramedics will find tough to read when patients will be swarming them.

However, the DC’s coinage has gained momentum with youngsters eagerly waiting for the Day to show their vocal skill.  A workshop on it was held in DRDA hall on Tuesday which was attended by a good number of civil society activists and a number of Non Governmental Organisation(NGOs). The roles of NGOs in the spread of education can not be ignored .
