People staying in different areas of Ranchi and those across the State crying of insufficient power supply may take a look at the statistics and take a sigh of relief at least virtually. The 'feel good' data of the Jharkhand Bidyut Vitaran Nigam limited (JBVNl) claims to be providing about 20 hours electricity on an average to all the major urban centres of the State. As per the statistics provided by the JBVNl the total peak demand requirement of the State is 2200 MW, whereas power availability is       2082 MW. The gap in the power supply chain is being arranged from IEX. The power distribution company states that the urban areas of Ranchi and Deoghar are getting 23 hours electricity supply everyday, while urban areas of Jamshedpur and Chaibasa are getting 22 hour power supply. Ironically, according to the Government owned company even the most power starved areas including Daltonganj, latehar, Jamtara, Godda are getting power supply between 19 and 21 hours a day.

Rural areas of J’khand are, however, getting least power supply including Simdega - 6 hours, Garhwa - 08 hours and Godda -10 hours. JBVNl MD Rahul Purwar said that the statistics given by the company was of general conditions and the firm was ensuring increased supply to all the centres both urban and rural. He also said that the reasons for immediate power shortage include, breakdown of one unit of TVNl and another unit of PTPS and non-operation of SHPP due to low level of water in dam. The JBVNl stated in an official communiqué that several new initiatives have been taken including collection based Rural Franchisee is being working in 29 sub-divisions, appointment of Input based Distribution Franchisee for 7 Circles, installation of 69 ATP Machine in addition to existing to ATP is under progress, collection through, Post office, Pragya Kendra is under progress, etc.
