Chairman of NIMS University Balvir S Tomar, facing charges of molestation in Ranchi, was on Tuesday granted bail by the court of Special Judge MC Verma on the ground of improbabilities emerging out of the version of the girl during the statements recorded before the police. Tomar was arrested from Jaipur by a team of Ranchi Police on September 6.

“He was granted bail as there were no serious allegations against my client,” said petitioner’s counsel Bishwajeet Mukherjee. A case against Tomar was lodged at Mahila Thana in Ranchi under Section 376/511 of the IPC in 2015.

Earlier, the case was registered against Tomar at Chutia police station in Ranchi in the month of January 2015 where a second-year girl student of Bachelor of Radiology and Imaging Technology accused Tomar of trying to rape her at a hotel room in Ranchi in November 2015. The 20 year old girl, who was a student of the same University, accused Tomar of calling her to his room on some pretext and then making inappropriate advances.

The girl after resisting his advances, rushed out of his room, subsequently lodging the complaint against him. Tomar at that time was in Ranchi to attend a conference along with some student from his University.
