Rainfall lashes low-lying areas of Bokaro

Several low-lying areas were inundated across the district due to the incessant and heavy rainfall for the past three days, though it brought respite to the simmering heat. About 1.5 to 3 feet of rainwater lodged at several spots on the National Highway-23 between Bokaro and Chas while entering into the shops and houses in the low-lying areas of Chas and sector areas; created mayhem among the residents.

Power disintegration has angry citizens in various parts of the city. BIADA Colony, including the satellite town of Chas, is being built up as the Posh Colony, while the Co-operative Colony does not have the necessary two that compelled people to dwell in the darkness.

In the meantime, farmers hailed the deluge in the rural proximity of the districts. We hope there will be additional showers to fill the ponds.

The rain is helpful for the produce, said Shankar, a farmer from Jaridih.

Meanwhile, the water level also increased into Tenughat Dam; the district administration and dam authorities issued a red alert asking people not to go into the Damodar River as water flow increased into the river. It might be expected of a sudden release of more water from the reservoir of the dam at any time, warning reveals.PNS

The gate of the dam can be opened as per the requirement to release flood and rainwater on any day from 16 June to 15 October which can result in a sudden increase in the water level of the Damodar River.

A sudden release of water may create harm or maybe a security risk for the population located on either side of the river, temporary bridge, factory or coal mine, railway bridge or road, drinking water, and sanitation department's intake well or pumps, under construction bridge-culverts, it reveals.

Authorities also warned all residents living close to the riverbanks to move to safer and higher places.

The reservoir of Tenughat Dam can hold the water level at a maximum of 824 feet, but now the water level has increased, said the official.
