Private English medium schools asked to submit RTE Act-related doubts

PNS

The district administration has asked private English medium schools to submit their questions and doubts under the RTE Act to the Deputy Commissioner by Monday.

Deputy Commissioner of East Singhbhum Amitabh Kaushal on Thursday met the Principals and Managing committee members to update them with the rules of the RTE Act at the Centre for Excellence.

The administration also distributed handouts and court judgement to the principals of about 60 schools, who were present at the meeting. Kaushal made it clear that schools who have been given land on lease or a sub lease will be treated as aided schools and not unaided schools. Also he explained how schools must form a school management committee (SMC) under the act. It will serve as a platform for grievances.

Members of the school management and principals also raised questions on detention of students and the effects thereafter. Principals also requested the district administration to give them a parameter on the low income and what is the expenditure that the State Government determines for a child under the RTE Act.

“We have been receiving complaints on RTE so far and after completing 22 months in East Singhbhum, there were only parents or members of parents’ organisation who have approached me on this. I would request all schools to get in touch with the administration directly so that we can clarify things properly,” added Kaushal.

SDO (Dhalbhum) Prem Ranjan along with district education officer (DEO), Mukesh Kumar Sinha and DSE (district superintendent of education), Indra Bhushan Singh were present at the meeting.

The principals said that they were happy to participate in the  meeting and would like to get in touch with the administration when in doubt.
