Pressure of cash withdrawal from Jan Dhan accounts eases

PNS

Pressure of withdrawal of Rs 500 in cash from PM Jan Dhan Yojna accounts here in Palamu has considerably eased down.

According to Lead Bank Managar ( LDM) Kishore Tirkey there are 9,98, 426 PM Jan Dhan Yojn accounts in Palamu out of which 5,06,524 accounts are in the name of women here. PM JDY accounts in the names of males are nearly a lakh fewer than the female ones, which stand at 4,91,902.

LDM Tirkey said a large chunk of these PM JDY accounts have been opened with Customer Service Point (CSP) and next to it in Jharkhand Rajya Gramin Bank and quite a negligible number of accounts in the mainstream national banks.

Sources said there was no outbreak of chaos but police force had to sweat out asking customers to maintain social distancing.

Sources said barring at one place in Palamu where a CSP operator had to bear the brunt of the anger of the cop on duty, there was no customer convulsion here. Sources said there was no repeat of the mad scrambling for cash as one had witnessed during the demonetization time.

DC Palamu Shantanu Kumar Agrahari had given instructions to all bank officials to ensure safe assemblage of customers at the CSPs or at Jh Rajya Gramin banks here.

SP Ajay Linda said cops, chowkidars and SDPOs keep a strict vigil here for this PMJDY withdrawal wherein all the efforts were to see that social distancing does not get fractured.

SDPO Hussainabad Vijay Kumar told the Pioneer, “We did one thing – we got shifted many CSPs operating from market areas in Hussainabad, Haidernagar and Mohammmadganj areas to rural areas where their destinations were. They had ignored the inconveniences of the customers and were doing banking works in market areas when their locations were rural ones.”

Kumar said the police shifted three such CSPs from Hussainabad market areas to its real rural destinations like Kusanarayanpur, Oopri Kala and Deori. Kumar said, “Can anyone believe Deori CSP was operating from Japla?” Police forced this CSP to start doing banking work from his allotted location Deori.

Similarly, Kumar said four CSPs operating in market areas of Haidernagar were made to work from the destinations allotted to them like Barewa, Kabra, Patarya and Bilaspur.

Vijay Kumar said this move of decongested the marketing areas and customers felt convenience to have their cash from PMJDY accounts in their villages/ panchayats’ CSPs.

Sources said if SDPO Hussainabad sent back CSPs to its original destinations, SDPO Sadar Sandip Kumar Gupta caught a big case where a CSP was right operating on the first floor of the SBI branch located on the ground floor at Kishunpur under Paton police station.

Gupta said, “To my great surprise I found one CSP right on the top roof of the SBI branch at Kishunpur. I do not know why no SBI official ever objected to it. I got it shifted to a building on the ground far away from the SBI branch here.”
