Preparations for Ravana Dahan is in full swing with the organisers, the Punjabi Hindu Biradari, finally getting approval for using the historic Morhabadi ground for depicting triumph of good over evil.
The district administration of Thursday gave a go ahead signal to the Biradari to install giant statues of Ravana, Meghnad and Kumhkarna besides erecting the mythological city of lanka. The event will take place on October 14, the auspicious day of Vijayadashmi.
“The district administration gave consent letter on Thursday evening. Now we are focusing on the preparations which is in final phase,” said committee member of Biradari, Gulshan lal Ajmani.
The city of lanka will be 30X30 feet in dimension while Ravana will stand tall at 65 feet, Meghnad will be around 60 feet and Kumbhkaran will be shortest at 55 feet. The trio, symbol of evil, will be set on fire through an electronic arrow.
Apart from the main attraction of burning effigy of Ravana, the function will showcase traditional chhau and paika dance besides fireworks on ground and in air by participants from Bengal and Bihar.
The list of VIP guests includes Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Ranchi MP Subodh Kant Sahay, former speaker of Jharkhand Assembly CP Singh and Deputy Mayor Sanjeev Vijay Vargiya.
Interestingly, the CM has given his consent to torch Ravana on fire, an offer his father Shibu Soren had rejected when he was CM of the State.
