Despite all claims by state electricity authority officials of providing uninterrupted power supply, a large part of the State appears to be destined to go through short to long hours of power cuts for some time. This would continue not because the State is witnessing sudden fall in power generation, but due to sustained reluctance towards combating distribution challenges, added with disruption due to heavy rain which is only going to add the menace once monsoon knocks at the door within a week.
Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam limited (JBVNl) Managing Director (MD) Rahul Purwar said on Wednesday that long hour power cuts on Monday-Tuesday and relatively shorter cuts before that occurred due to heavy rains and storm-like situations, which caused damages to supply lines. He added that the department was working on not to meet with similar types of faults again and again. However, he said that any supply side issue might be purely incidental one, which could occur anytime and anywhere.
Notably, long hour power cuts in last three days in almost entire capital city have left citizens irked, as considerable number of households is already disturbed with inflated bills sent to it by a private company which has been deployed to read meters and send bills to consumers from March this year.
The power supply in the capital city and many other parts of the State was badly hit by rains and storm on Tuesday which left most of the areas struggling with local faults. Falling of trees on roads and failure of transformers at couple of places forced the department to interrupt power supply at regular intervals.
At the same time, precautionary power cuts also took place on Tuesday and Wednesday before and after rain.
