On the instructions of Governor Ramesh Bais, Ranchi Police on Tuesday put up posters of rioters/stone pelters involved in June 10 vandalism on Main Road. The posters carrying photographs and miscreants of rioters were put up at major roundabouts of Capita, however, within hours the Ranchi police removed the posters soon. The U-turn of Ranchi police escalated political temperature in the State, with both ruling JMM and opposition BJP engaging in war of words.
Sources said that the posters were removed as ruling JMM made a strong objection over putting up posters.
JMM Central Working Committee member Supriyo Bhattacharya said that what will be the effect on the society by putting up the poster, first there should be a social assessment of it. The more you beat the wound, the more dirt will spread. If action is to be taken, then the police should take action by identifying the miscreants. Public defamation is not right.
Bhattacharya further said that the Supreme Court has also said in the case of UP that one cannot make anyone's privacy public. The news of Ranchi violence has come in the media. What will be the benefit of putting its poster at the square intersections? The Governor has his own sentiment in the matter; I do not want to comment on it. But before putting up the poster, it should be assessed whether it will increase bitterness or love. It is clear that the difference between UP and Jharkhand will disappear.
However, BJP legislative party leader Babulal Marandi said that JMM government in its appeasement policy removed the posters of miscreants put up by the police in the city. Babulal tweeted– Posters of miscreants put up in the city by Ranchi Police were taken down in a few hours under the pressure of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha. It is obvious that those in power are still engaged in addition and subtraction. Appeasement should not be harmed, even if it is paid for by saving the miscreants who set the city on fire.
The State police sprang into action after Governor Ramesh Bais directed the senior police officials about taking action in this connection. On Monday, the Governor had summoned the senior police-administrative officers of the state including DGP Neeraj Sinha and expressed displeasure over the incident of violence.
The Governor had asked the DGP to identify the miscreants and put their photographs in public places so that common citizens can give information about them. The posters have appeared at various roundabouts within 24 hours after the Governor expressed his displeasure over Friday violence.
