Polling parties and security personnel doing poll duties at booths located inside or near Palamu jungle are wary of beehives! Mosquito bites are day and night affair but bee attack is sudden irrespective of where the sun is!
Any anger of bees resting the beehives is surer to cause panic and pain both as it happened at Ranka the other day, a part of the Palamu lok Sabha constituency where during a poll training, came a sudden and abrupt attack from the bees triggering a total disintegration of the work force for a brief period of time along with nearly half a dozen trainees sustaining minor biting injuries said sources.
About one and a half month back a CRPF jawan at Chiyanki base was bitten by bees and was treated in the Sadar hospital in Daltonganj. Natural beehives are quite common in the jungles of Palamu as these jungles abound in wild flowers all round the year and one is to be cautious about them as any poking of the beehives either by way of poking it by wood or by smashing any stone on the beehive, the bee attack is then inevitable.
The natural beehives are also to be found in Daltonganj town’s two prestigious buildings one the Pink palace and the other Mahindra arcade. Dr Anand, a noted physician, said all attempts be first made not to get bitten by bees but if the occurrence does happen one has to undergo treatment with anti biotic and pain remover.
A school teacher who once did poll duty in 2009 election said,”I had this experience of bee attack when a village urchin hit a beehive where we were lodged for poll duty in Chainpur block’s interior but since I had with me a thick blanket I just got it around my body and sat motionless for some time and I survived while one of my teammate who ran in panic got more stings of the bees’.
