PNS

The State police, in order to take on the splinter groups of the CPI (Maoist) in their strongholds, will establish forward camps deep inside the jungles of Khunti district, largely dominated by the People’s liberation Front of India (PlFI). DGP Rajiv Kumar along with the other top officials of the State police on Thursday visited Birbanki and Korba areas of the district, looking for suitable location for setting up the camps.

“Setting up such camps in the rebels’ strongholds will enable the security forces to hit them hard at their place,” said the DGP. I visited Birbanki, Korba and some other places along with senior police officials and discussed the feasibility of establishing lUP as soon as possible, added the DGP. As the terrain reaching to the spot was quite difficult, the entire police team along with DGP Kumar had to travel on motorcycle for several km to reach the site.

According to another senior police official visiting the place, setting up such base camps deep inside the jungles also boost up the morale of the security forces as well as the villagers of the area bridging the gap between the two. It also makes the movement of security forces easy, at the same time, restricting the movement of rebels, added the official.

“It will also help to carry on the ongoing Operation Karo – II a great success,” said the official requesting anonymity.Operation Karo-II was launched recently on January 8 to finish the PlFI cadres out from Khunti and its adjoining districts of Simdega, Gumla, lohardaga and Chaibasa.
