In a bid to make city safer for college going girls and ladies outside on their job or in marketplace, City SP Aman Kumar on Saturday inspected few places around college campuses to hound street-labeled Romeos and to take reality check on ground about the drive which was started earlier this year.

He said on the day that the police in city would intensify the drive once educational institutes reopen after Winter Vacation this year and the police would keep vigil on unwanted gathering outside colleges meanwhile.

“We will make sure that there is not a single guy allowed roaming around outside college campuses aimlessly with his nasty thoughts towards girls walking out from their classes. The drive is on since some time with local police stations strictly ordered to carry on anti-Romeo drives in their respective areas. We have observed eve-teasing cases coming down outside college campuses and girls feeling safer after we started the drive few months back, and I am sure we shall have no such complaints arising from anywhere in the city,” said Kumar who grabbed few boys outside Marwari College, warned, counseled and let them go.

Notably, SSP Kuldeep Dwivedi launched anti-Romeo drive in city in March this year with formation of four teams of squad comprising a woman ASI and constable and two male constables in each team to curb eve-teasing cases around educational institutes exclusively for girls. Though the drive appeared effective for some initial days, weakened frequency of drive left it with considered more an eye-wash at later months.

Prior to that, Chief Minister Raghubar Das flagged off Shakti fleet in 2016 with similar target in which 40 women commandos were assigned the job of quick response to the Shakti mobile application which was developed to safeguard women and reach out to them in distress as soon as possible.

“It was relieving to see the police taking care of street-labeled Romeos who used to keep on passing unpleasant remarks to every other girl passing by them. I wish the drive continues, because what we have seen in past is that the police come up one day all of a sudden, take some boys with them, release them after warning and go on a long sleep,” said a Marwari College student seeking anonymity.
