Police intensify security ahead of Eid

PNS

Ahead of the Eid festival, security has been beefed up in Dhanbad and Bokaro. Planned mock drills have been organized and paramilitary troops conducted flag march in different parts in twin district on Tuesday.

On the direction of higher-ups, a high alert has been declared, cops are instructed to tackle all the adverse situations and keep strong security arrangements. Patrolling has been intensified to avert any untoward incidents, said P Murugan, SP Bokaro.

Forces have been directed to keep a vigil on anti-social elements including mobike riders inside the city as well as on the entry point in the cities. Miscreants would be dealt strictly and no compromise will be made in providing security to the people, he said.

To curb rumours police vowed to take action against those who have been spreading false information. Police urged people not to spread rumours on social sites or be influenced by them; “stiff action would be taken against rumour mongers,” said the SP.

"We have already issued a directive to social media groups, WhatsApp and Facebook group administrators and members, not to spread rumors, offensive messages ahead of any festival. Administrator of a group on the social media is liable for prosecution if any rumour or fake news is circulated on it," he added.

"Social media platforms allow a person to create a group on which members can share views, photographs or videos. Misuse of social media with fake news, morphed photographs and disturbing videos with fabricated local narratives can easily be circulated that can trigger tension and even communal split," said the SP.

He said, while freedom of expression on social media is important, it also comes with a responsibility. “It has been made clear that any misleading information or rumour (factually incorrect) on a social media group could result in an FIR against the group administrator,” he added.

Like the previous year more than 23 spots were identified as the most sensitive place and cops were asked to keep special attention in those regions. Though peace committee meets were organised under several police stations to maintain harmony during the festivity. Religious leaders from all communities, volunteers, Senior citizens, the local businessman, eminent citizens, professionals, youngsters have also participated in peace meetings.

“Stresses were given on fostering peace and harmony by bringing people together to fight anti-social elements during the meet”, informed JV Gupta OC of Herla Police station.

“In a bid to foil any unsocial activities we will stand together like a family member and maintain peace,” said Samsher member of the committee.
