The Ranchi Police did a commendable job during an encounter on Tuesday. One People’s liberation Force of India (PlFI) rebel was killed and two others nabbed at lalkhatanga village, under Tupudana Police Station, about 30 km from State headquarters Ranchi. Arms and ammunitions have also been recovered.
“After a tip-off (that some suspicious people had been found to have taken shelter in the diversity park at lalkhatanga), a team was sent to chase them. The rebels started running away and fired on being followed,” said Ranchi SSP Saket Kumar Singh.
The police retaliated and as many as 25 to 30 rounds were fired from both sides, according to SSP.
Several cases have been lodged against the PlFI men, Durga Munda and Phagu Pahan, who were arrested. Another two managed to escape. The slain rebel has been identified as Rathu.
The area they were found in is near the jungles of Khunti and the rebels have been committing petty crimes and demanding levy from small businessmen here. The group was also trying to enter the city.
